CGU Car Insurance Features
As a reward for maintaining a maximum 60% No Claim Bonus on a CGU Comprehensive Car Insurance Policy for two consecutive years, CGU will not reduce your No Claim Bonus in future years if you have one claim.
When you select CGU Comprehensive Car Insurance we will increase your No Claims Bonus up to our maximum entitlement for each claim free year. Yes - you can actually be rewarded with up to a 60% discount off our standard premium. When you have held your Maximum No Claim Bonus for two years, you are entitled to additional benefits - see Maximum No Claim Bonus protection.
We will also provide you with a No Claim Bonus entitlement when you have been comprehensively insured with another insurer (within the past three months).
To obtain this entitlement, you simply need to provide a copy of your Schedule, expiry (renewal) notice or a letter from your current insurer. The amount of No Claim Bonus may vary if the previous insurance is on another car.
At CGU you can even earn a No Claim Bonus without comprehensive insurance. Please click on Earn a No Claim Bonus without Comprehensive Insurance to find out more.
If you lodge a claim with us for which we will penalise your No Claim Bonus, you will lose two years' entitlement for each claim.
If Faultless No Claim Bonus conditions apply to your claim, your No Claim Bonus would not be affected.
With CGU Comprehensive Car Insurance option, your No Claim Bonus entitlement will not be penalised by a collision we agree was caused by someone else. All you need to do is provide us with the name and current address of the person responsible for the accident.
Also, CGU will not penalise your No Claim Bonus if your car is damaged in a storm, bush fire, earthquake or any other naturally occurring disaster.
Another CGU No Claim Bonus benefit is Maximum no claim bonus protection.
This feature does not apply to Fire, Theft & Third Party Property Damage and Third Party Property Damage Only levels of cover.
This feature means you do not need to pay your excess if we agree the collision was caused by someone else. All you need to do is provide us with the name and current address of the person responsible for the accident.
CGU's Comprehensive Car Insurance is very flexible. It allows you to choose the way we settle your claim in the event your vehicle is destroyed or stolen and not recovered.
Market value is the most popular and less costly option. The value of your car is determined after the claim is lodged. Market value means the amount of money it would cost to replace your car in your local area with an identical car.
It is also the value of your car at the time of the accident or theft and is calculated by experienced assessors with the help of trade publications and other market information. The age and condition of your car is also taken into account.
Agreed value means CGU agrees a fixed amount to cover your car at the beginning of each period of insurance. When you take out or renew your policy you need to be satisfied the amount will not be less than the full market value.
If your vehicle is less than three years old, you may be interested in reviewing the CGU New car replacement option.
Uninsured third party driver protection to $5,000
When you select either the CGU Fire, Theft & Third Party or Third Party Property Damage Only covers, you are electing not to insure all the things that can happen to your car.
One of the risks you can decide to accept is damage to your car due to another driver's error. After all, if it's the other driver's fault you should be able to claim on their insurance.
Regrettably there are uninsured drivers on our roads. The prospect of receiving compensation from uninsured drivers is very low - CGU Fire, Theft & Third Party Property Damage Car Insurance and CGU Third Party Property Damage Only Car Insurance policies provide you with protection from those uninsured drivers as long as you can identify the person responsible for the accident. CGU will also pay up to $5,000 to repair or replace your car.
If your car is less than two years old (ie. is in it's first or second year of registration) and has travelled less than 30,000 kilometres when destroyed in an accident or is stolen and not recovered, CGU Comprehensive Car Insurance will replace it with a new car.
We will even pay the registration and dealer delivery fees. If the manufacturer is no longer making that model or it is not available locally, we will give you the cost of the nearest equivalent car.
We will also provide this new car replacement benefit if your car is less than three years old (but not less than two years), provided your car has travelled less than 50,000 kilometres.
The new car replacement feature is not available with the Fire, Theft & Third Party Property Damage and Third Party Property Damage Only levels of cover.
This feature enables you to claim from CGU the cost of hiring a similar car for up to 14 days if your car is stolen. The cover stops if your car is found.
This feature is not available to the Third Party Property Damage Only level of cover.
14 day automatic cover for replacement car
If you have any of the CGU Car Insurance covers and you trade in your insured car for another, CGU provides you with the same level of cover for up to 14 days for your new car provided you tell us about the vehicle within the 14 days.
Earn a No Claim Bonus without Comprehensive Insurance
If your car is insured for Fire, Theft and Third Party Property Damage or Third Party Property Damage Only and you wish to upgrade to the Comprehensive Insurance cover option, CGU will provide you with a one year No Claim Bonus entitlement for every two years of claims free insurance.
CGU Car Insurance policies include up to $10 million liability cover for damage to other peoples' property as a result of an accident.
Our policy includes liability cover for personal injury when there is no insurance required by law to provide cover for death or bodily injury. If there is such insurance available and you do not take it, our policy does not provide any cover. There is no cover for injury to the driver or any member of their family or anyone who lives with them.
There is also no cover for injury to you or any member of your family (or anyone who lives with you).
With CGU Comprehensive Car Insurance, you can select the windscreen option. This allows you to claim for one broken windscreen or window in any one year without having to pay the excess or suffer loss of your No Claim Bonus.
This feature is not available with the Fire, Theft & Third Party Property Damage and Third Party Property Damage Only levels of cover.
As part of CGU Comprehensive Car Insurance, any trailer is covered for loss or damage up to $500 while it is attached to your car.
If you select CGU Fire, Theft & Third Party Property Damage option, your trailer is covered for up to $500 for damage caused by fire or theft but only while it is attached to your car.
With any CGU Car Insurance policy, there is cover for damage you cause to other people's property by the trailer while a trailer is attached to your car, or it becomes detached from your car while you are towing. CGU does not cover any items in the trailer.
An excess is the amount you contribute to the settlement of your claim. CGU Car Insurance policies have basic excess amounts based on the value of your car as well as excesses based on the driver's age or the driving experience. Young and inexperienced drivers are subject to an irremovable excess. The basic excess can be removed by the payment of an additional premium.
CGU Comprehensive Insurance has faultless excess conditions
