Keep Your PC Secure
While connected to the internet it is important to ensure you take precautions to ensure your computer is safe from viruses and other malicious attacks. This is even more important while using sites such as internet banking.
Keep your Details Secure
B&E will never ask you to disclose your internet banking username or password in an e-mail, over the phone or by any other means. If you ever receive an e-mailed link to our website, or e-mail asking for your username or password, do not respond to it or use the link in the e-mail, always login to internet banking via our direct website www.b-e.com.au or from your favourites if you have added us to them, and never from a third party link on another website or e-mail. If you do come across such links please report them to us via the contact us section of our website.
Always have up-to-date antivirus software.
The number of viruses, worms and Trojans which can spread to your computer from the internet are ever increasing, and your PC could be easily compromised if you do not have regularly updated anti-virus software installed. Consult your local PC reseller for help if you are unsure of a good anti-virus product.
Keep your software up to date.
Iif you are using a Microsoft Windows based PC, ensure you visit the Microsoft Windows Update website (http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com) always install any CRITICAL patches you do not currently have on your machine. If you are using Windows 98 or an earlier version of Windows, B&E recommends you upgrade before using B&E Internet Banking, older versions of windows are a much higher security risk as security updates may not be available for newly found security threats. If you are using an operating system other than Microsoft Windows, ensure you keep it up-to-date with the latest security patches for that system and always use the most recent version of your chosen web browser.
Consider installing firewall software
B&E recommends all internet banking customers use personal firewall software on your computer to further protect your PC from Internet threats. A properly configured and up-to-date personal firewall is the best method of protecting your computer from malicious activities such as hacking or viruses, while connected to the internet.
